description:
I’m currently lying a hull in the North Atlantic, around 500 miles offshore, with 45–50 knots over the deck and the boat settled as safely as she can be in these conditions. In this video, I talk through the dynamics of lying a-hull — what it is, why I’ve chosen this technique here, and why I’m not using a para-anchor or a drogue in this particular situation. We go into the physics of stopping a boat at sea, how the boat behaves, and how you manage risk when things start to stack up. As always, this isn’t new ground — we’re standing on the shoulders of people like Captain Voss, Weston Martyr, Eric Hiscock… the ones who worked this out the hard way long before us. Mini Series Links: This video is part of a short series on how to lie a' hull in heavy weather: The first video explaining how I prepared for the Storm is here : https://youtu.be/DpwjXcgcpq0 The second part, showing conditions below on the first night is here: https://youtu.be/axkHvGZrBjE The last part showing conditions on deck during the day and answering your questions is here: https://youtu.be/RXft96LVjYQ?si=gs5UDMemSymFioVE Need More Mariner?
